As
we continue to read God's Word, we find that the Bible is filled with many
glorious
accounts of miracles, revealing numerous occasions during the ministry
of Jesus when He supernaturally intervened in the lives of individuals.
Time after
time in the midst of impossible circumstances, Jesus brought hope and healing
to the lives of men, women, and children wherever He went.
The Wedding In Cana
At a wedding
in Cana of Galilee, Jesus performed His first miracle, turning water into
wine.
On
another occasion, He restored sight to blind Bartimaeus in response to
the blind man’s persistent cry for mercy.
The daughter
of Jairus, ruler of the synagogue, was raised to life when Jesus said,
“Arise.”
A hungry crowd
of 5,000 was miraculously fed with a little boy’s lunch of just five loaves
and two fish.
At Jesus’ command,
a paralytic man who had been brought to Jesus picked up his bed and walked
home as strength was restored to his body.
Miracles happened
wherever Jesus was.
In His presence
the demon-possessed found deliverance from torment, the blind received
their sight, the dead were raised to life, the mute began to speak, and
the lame walked.
All these,
and so many other marvelous miracles, took place when Jesus was nearby.
The miracles
of Jesus as recorded in Scripture are not just inspirational stories or
historic accounts that happened in days gone by. Each account illustrates
the miracle-working power of the One whom the Scriptures declare to be
“Jesus
Christ, the same, yesterday, and today, and forever” Hebrews
13:8 KJV
Incredible
narratives of miracles are found throughout the Gospels that raise our
faith to new levels every single time we read them. Miracles such as these,
and greater, are available to you and me today as you walk with Him that
lives fro ever and ever.
Matthew 8 records
an account where Jesus cleansed a leper after the leper said, “Lord,
if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.” Immediately, Jesus stretched
forth His hand and responded, “I will, be thou clean.” Matthew
8:2–3 KJV
Instantaneously,
the leprosy disappeared; the leper was cleansed and made whole. Oh! How
wonderful is our God.
In the same chapter
of Matthew we also find the story of Peter’s mother-in-law, who was sick
with a fever. When Jesus entered the house, her fever vanished as Jesus
touched her hand, and she was instantly healed.
She immediately
regained her strength in such a significant way that she got out of bed,
prepared a meal, and served Jesus, Peter, and those who were gathered there.
“And
when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid and
sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she
arose, and ministered unto them.”
Matthew
8:14–15 KJV
In the book of
Mark, Jesus responded to the desperate cry of blind Bartimaeus when He
paused to ask, “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?” Bartimaeus
replied, “Lord, that I might receive my sight.” And Jesus said,
“Go
thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his
sight, and followed Jesus”
Mark
10:46–52 KJV
The book of Luke
tells of a man with a withered, crippled, deformed, hand who received his
miracle suddenly as he obeyed Jesus’ command to “Stretch forth thy hand.”
As he did, his hand became normal again and was completely healed.
“And
it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue
and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
And the scribes
and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath day; that
they might find an accusation against him.
But HE
knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, ‘Rise
up, and stand forth in the midst.’ And he arose and stood forth.
Then said Jesus
unto them, ‘I will ask you one thing: Is
it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? To save life,
or to destroy it?’ And looking round about
upon them all, He said unto the man, ‘Stretch
forth thy hand.’ And he did so: and his hand
was restored whole as the other.”
Luke
6:6–10 KJV
The story of the
paralytic man at the Pool of Bethesda is found in the book of John. The
Scriptures tell us that this man had suffered with his infirmity for thirty-eight
years.
The Pool of
Bethesda was located just inside the city, and five covered porches surrounded
the pool. Each of these porches was crowded with many, many sick and afflicted
people.
The blind,
the deaf, the lame, and the paralyzed who were brought there each day to
wait for a certain movement of the water all gather together there daily,
for the Bible says that an angel of the Lord came from time to time and
stirred up the water.
There was no
way to predict when the waters might be stirred up, so the sick watched
and waited paitantly daily.
The first person
to step down into the water after the waters were stirred up would be healed,
no matter what the condition or ailment.
The paralytic
man had suffered for thirty-eight years. In addition, he had no one to
help him into the water even if the angel of the Lord did appear and stir
them.
With no assistance
and a thirty-eight-year condition of paralysis, he had no real hope of
ever receiving his healing. There were just too many obstacles. The scriptural
account of this story is found in the book of John:
“After
this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now
there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the
Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude
of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the
water.
For an angel
went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever
then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made while of
whatever disease he had.
And a certain
man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus
saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he
saith unto him, ‘Wilt thou be made whole?’
The impotent
man answered him, ‘Sir, I have no man when the water is troubled, to put
me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.’
Jesus saith unto him, ‘Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.’
And immediately
the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same
day was the Sabbath.”
John
5:1–9 KJV
Jesus stopped
to talk to this helpless man He saw lying near the pool. When Jesus discovered
how long he had been ill, He asked the man, “Would
you like to be healed?”
Looking at
his natural circumstances, the sick man responded “I can’t, Sir, for
I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While
I am trying to get there, someone else always gets in ahead of me.”
Jesus ignored
the circumstances as well as the man’s response and said, “Rise,
take up thy bed, and walk.” Instantly, the
man was healed, and obeyed the Master’s command as he rolled up his mat
and began to walk!
Jesus performed
many glorious miracles throughout His ministry, and He had power and authority
over all disease and all sickness. There was no illness or condition that
Jesus could not heal.
“And
Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching
the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner
of disease among the people.”
Matthew
4:23 KJV
Jesus’ power over
sickness and disease has not changed! Miracles still happen today, just
as they did when Jesus was on the earth.
The same Jesus
who walked this earth, “healing all manner of sickness and all manner
of disease among the people,” still heals today. Health and life are
restored when the Master comes on the scene. Disease and infirmities still
vanish as sick bodies are transformed by the healing touch of Jesus.
Scripture declares,
“God
is no respecter of persons” Acts 10:34 KJV. Therefore, if healing was
extended to one person as it was in so many instances throughout the Bible,
then it is available to all, even today.
I will tell
you this one thing, miracles are not selectively bestowed upon only those
deemed worthy but are available to every man, woman, boy, and girl. That
includes YOU!
God’s healing
power is not limited to a time frame in history or to a select group of
individuals. He is the God of miracles, a gracious, loving, unchanging
heavenly Father who always has and always will intervene to do the impossible
in the lives of mortal men as they reach out to Him and ask in faith, expecting
to receive.
God’s promises
for healing and health are the same to this generation as they have been
to every generation throughout history.
His ability
to open blinded eyes is as great today as it was when blind Bartimaeus
cried out for mercy and received his sight in the book of Mark 10:52.
The lame and
the crippled still leap to their feet and in a moment’s time begin
to walk, just as the paralytic man did who sat hopelessly at the Pool of
Bethesda until Jesus came on the scene in the book of John 5:1–9. I have
seen this tak place in ALL my meetings. As I preach the Gospel of Salavation
and healing, I have seen the sick restored and healed.
Miraculous
signs and wonders still happen today! If you have an urgent need or are
desperately seeking a miracle today, don’t despair or be discouraged by
the circumstances you may be facing.
Look to Jesus,
and reach out to Him in faith, for nothing is impossible when you put your
trust in Him!
