then such is indicative 
that we have yet to be born of God.

"No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. 

For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have."

Luke 8:16-18 KJV

  In this first passage of Scripture the Lord is giving us great insight and Revelation about the LIGHT. He teaches us that people light lamps, or in our cases, they turn light switches on in order to see clearly. It is a fact of life that light switches are always turned on when it is dark.

The people that lived in Jesus' time lit lamps when it was dark, and did so in order to see. But there are those who prefer darkness. There are some that even though it is dark prefer to remain in darkness in order not to see.

"Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil." 

John 3:19 KJV

Being enlightened by God's LIGHT and His Spirit of Truth found in HIS WORD, the Bible leads to enlightened behavior. 

But rejecting God's LIGHT and His Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, the other Comforter, leads to condemnation.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. 

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 

John 14: 15-18 KJV

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2 Corinthian 3: 17 KJV

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Roman 8: 1 KJV

Followers of the Creator of Light should be characterized as people of God's LIGHT and His Spirit of Truth. This is true enlightenment.

The LIGHT of the LORD ALWAYS follows me, and it is always the SAME LIGHT.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." 

James 1: 17 KJV

"If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin."

1 John 1:6-7 KJV

Even if we claim to be enlightened, but darkness characterizes our lifestyle, then such is indicative that we have yet to be born of God.

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness."

1 John 2:9 KJV

"He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now."

Though some responded well, Jesus was subject to much persecution because he exposed people's sinfulness to the light. People do not want to be exposed, most would prefer to remain in the dark and by their own choice, that is where they will remain.

Think about this for a minute. In a dark place, it doesn't take a particularly bright lamp to reveal truth. When it is very dark, even a dim lamp can be seen very far off.

Why would a believer and follower of the LORD Jesus Christ hide his or her lamp?

Is it done in order to avoid persecution or ridicule?
Is a stronghold being blamed for that action?
Is it a lack of knowledge or a spirit of rebellion and witchcraft?

Christians often compromise in inappropriate ways with the world by covering truth and tolerating it. It is a fact of life that the world prefers darkness. And those who walk around saying that there is no GOD are the first ones that run into the darkness.

So some Christians cover their lamps. But Jesus teaches that we shouldn't be so overly concerned to people's reaction of truth. He warned us and told us to expect that very same reaction from those running from the LIGHT.

Lamp stands are used to make the light more prominent. An example of a lamp stand is an institutional church. Jesus calls seven institutional churches "lamp stands" in Rev 1:20 KJV

They are supposed to facilitate The Light getting out, but too often are more interested in investing in fancy lampshades to cover themselves, which hinder the light.

Jesus was so exasperated with a number of such churches that HE threatened to simply shut them down. Today many churches are being shut down and removed from office for the very same reason. They simply cover HIS LIGHT.

In the second passage Jesus deals with the effect of revelation.

No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. 

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. 

Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

Luke 11:33-36 KJV

I believe that the eye is the lamp of the body in that our perception affects our whole behavior. If you cannot perceive what is true, just, and holy, then your lifestyle will be characterized by darkness, both mentally and morally.

You must absolutely realize also that people who are spiritually blind are not innocent victims by any means. They have become that way by responding to what God has revealed to them in an appropriate manner. They have chosen to remain complacent, relaxed about the LORD's counsel.
God's Anger At Sin

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Romans 1:18-31 KJV

Let this be a warning to you who are reading this article. Yes, you who claim to be children of The LIGHT. You are being put on notice.

For if we don't respond properly to what God reveals to us, our spiritual maturity and effectiveness will be hindered.
